COMIC BOOK COVER GALLERY: My introductions to specific heroes in the '60s and '70s

Ya gotta start somewhere. Today's gallery gathers the covers of comic books that served as my introductions to specific comics heroes. For this exercise, I'm ignoring house-ad glimpses of characters seen prior to acquiring one of their funnybook adventures, and by definition I'm skipping heroes I saw first on TV (Superman, Batman, Flash Gordon, Tarzan, the Lone Ranger, Zorro, the Green Hornet, Space Ghost, Popeye, Dick Tracy, possibly the Fantastic Four), newspaper strips (the Phantom), paperbacks (Doc Savage, the Avenger), hardcovers (the Spirit in The Great Comic Book Heroes), Super 8 home movies (the original Captain Marvel), or other media (the Shadow). This is all about comic books that introduced me to a new-to-me character, like seeing Deadman join Batman in the pages of The Brave And The Bold, or discovering Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Giant-Man, and the Wasp all at once, assembled as the Avengers.

There is a little bit of repetition from previous galleries, but I tried to keep that to a minimum. We'll be sticking exclusively to the '60s and '70s this time out. Today's presentation includes books I bought new, back issues I acquired after the fact (but within the timeline), and B-stock contraband originally purchased without their covers. As always: No, these aren't actual photos of comics in my collection. But I did have each and every one of 'em at some point in time.

My introduction to both Sub-Mariner and the Hulk, and probably my first Marvel Comics book

Also my first Howard the Duck

My first Justice League, my first Justice Society, my first Wonder Woman (albeit in her Earth-Two incarnation), my first Green Lantern, my first Flash, my first Green Arrow, my first Wildcat, my first Hourman, my first Mr. Terrific, my first Johnny Thunders, and my first exposure to the concept of multiple Earths (a grown-up Robin!). THIS, my friends, was an introduction!
