Let's line up some greatest hits!
Today's gallery gathers the covers of some individual comic books that I just adored when I was a kid. These are books I read and re-read and re-re-read at some point in the period of 1965 through 1977, when I was aged five through seventeen, kindergarten through high school. There are a number of repeats from past galleries, but that's the nature of greatest hits: It can't be a hit if you only play it once. This gallery eschews multi-part storylines (which will be the subject of a future gallery), and skips DC's 100-Page Super Spectaculars, because they were all fave raves, weren't they?
I don't necessarily put these forth as a representative sampling of my all-time favorite individual comic books; it certainly isn't comprehensive, and a few of them might not even make such a list if I ever tried to compile one. But each of them meant a lot to me at some point in time.
BUT! That top image of Detective Comics # 439? "The Night Of The Stalker!" (written by Steve Englehart with Vin and Sal Amendola) remains my all-time favorite Batman story (as seen in this Top 5 List), and it's my # 1 comic book story overall. Classic, man, and I will never get tired of it. We'll see more Englehart-written Batman stories when Comic Book Cover Gallery casts its big, bright Bat-signal on multiple-part storylines.
For now: Some single-issue favorites. Hey kids! COMICS!

I compiled a various-artists tribute album called Make Something Happen! A Tribute To The Flashcubes, and it's pretty damned good; you can read about it here and order it here. My new book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1) is now available, and you can order an autographed copy here. You can still get my previous book Gabba Gabba Hey! A Conversation With The Ramones from publisher Rare Bird Books, OR an autographed copy here. If you like the books, please consider leaving a rating and/or review at the usual online resources.
