We don't keep track of this particular stat, but I think this week's playlist includes more songs than any previous three-hour edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio. We've done a few four-hour blowouts with more songs, and a three-hour all-1950s special we did about twenty years ago had almost (not quite) as many tracks as this week's shindig. At 66 tracks plus theme song and two closing songs, I do believe this is our biggest-ever 180-minute stack o' tracks.
I like playing a lot of different songs in a show. It's why I generally favor shorter tracks; you don't see a lot of five-minute or longer songs on TIRnRR playlists. What do you expect from a show named after a line in a Ramones song? Still, this week's bounty wasn't a specific goal, and we were surprised when we needed to add an extra set--and an extra-length extra set at that--to get us to the three-hour mark. We're certainly not going to complain about an opportunity to play more pop music.
And for all that, our story is still quality over quantity. Quality and quantity! I think you'll dig the result. There's a lot here. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
