One of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio's strengths is that it's programmed by two people rather than just one. Dana does one solo show a year (Dana's Funky Soul Pit, and his 2022 edition was epic), and I usually do one, too (skipped it this year, so 2021's The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1) was my most recent). Our pal Fritz Van Leaven provides the stats for our year-end countdown. Otherwise? It's Dana AND Carl. I play a song, and then Dana plays a song. Back and forth. Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin' Planet.
I think Dana and I know our rockin' pop stuff, and either one of us could pull off a better'n decent weekly show if we had to go solo. That show wouldn't be TIRnRR.
The result of this week's collaborative alchemy appears below. The show is stronger because I play, say, the Spongetones, Natalie Cole, Isaac Hayes, and the Ramones, and Dana plays Los Lobos, Laura Nyro and LaBelle, R.E.M., and some Hungarian stuff I can't hope to pronounce correctly. Man, this ain't half bad. Both halves are pretty damned cool, actually, when you play them together.
Ready, Dana? Let's show 'em. Time to play.
