Fake THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Playlist: Acts I Saw Live Once (And Only Once)

This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl is simply too large a concept to be neatly contained within a mere three-hour weekly time slot. Hence these occasional fake TIRnRR playlists, detailing shows we're never really going to do...but could.

Today's imaginary playlist gathers tracks by a number of artists whom I saw in live performance once, and only once. I slapped this together from memory, without checking my Virtual Ticket Stub Gallery. Are there errors and omissions? Possibly. But it's LIVE, man! When it's live, you accept the occasional miscue, and you power ahead. On with the show!

One thing I did was to avoid acts that, while I may have only seen 'em once, I saw one or more of its players at a different time under a different billing. For example: I saw Peter Noone's fab new wave band the Tremblers, but they're not on this playlist because I also saw Noone fronting Herman's Hermits, as well as on a Teen Idols tour with Davy Jones and Bobby Sherman. Similar sets of circumstances prevented me from including stuff by the Animals, the Rascals, the Runaways, the Records, the Brandos, the Beach Boys, Talking Heads, and probably somebody else, too.

(On the other hand, I am including Brian Wilson; his fellow Beach Boy Al Jardine was in Brian's band when I saw the Pet Sounds live tour. The fact that I saw Jardine as a solo act disqualified the Beach Boys from this list, but Jardine wasn't recording with Brian at the time of Wilson's eponymous album, so I'm taking my mulligan and programming a Brian Wilson track here.)

With some of these acts, one could quibble about whether or not I saw the "real" band, especially when considering oldies acts. Paul Revere and the Raiders without Mark Lindsay, nor any other classic Raider beside the late Paul Revere? Rob Grill playing under the Grass Roots' dba? The Shirelles in a freakin' parking lot, with whatever Shirelles happened to be on hand? Hell, the Clash without Mick Jones? YMMV. For now, we're going by the name on the virtual ticket stub.

So: CHECK! Okay, that was our soundcheck. The show must go on. Please welcome to the TIRnRR stage....
