On Wednesday, our friends at Big Stir Records finalized the master for the forthcoming various-artists album Make Something Happen! A Tribute To The Flashcubes. It's due out on September 12th, and it sounds amazing. I completed my part of the work a little over a week ago, but I'll be available for hype and conversation with anyone who wants to participate in the act of hype and conversation.
Also on Wednesday, I completed my parts of this coming Sunday night's This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio. Our July 6th presentation is a special show called GOOD VIBRATIONS: Brian Wilson and the Legend of Summer. This labor of love gathers some performances by Wilson (both solo and with the Beach Boys) and mixes them with Brian Wilson covers recorded by other artists, some works by artists influenced by Wilson, some unrelated summer songs, and a few things that just seemed to fit within the general good vibration. It's a rare TIRnRR with no back-announcement of tracks--full playlist will post here on Monday--and it includes the Krayolas, Laurie Biagini, Rob Bonfiglio, the Honeys, Michael Simmons, Mike Browning, Al Jardine, P.P. Arnold, the Flamin' Groovies, the Ronettes, the Beatles, the Ramones, Sly and the Family Stone, the Rubinoos, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Raspberries, Gary Frenay, Nelson Bragg, Lisa Mychols and Super 8, the Smithereens, 20/20, Doug Powell, the Isley Brothers, and many more. It was an enormously satisfying show to do, and it airs this Sunday, July 6th, from 9 to Midnight Eastern at SPARK!
And I'm exhausted. Nighty-night for now.
