Wednesday is my day off from retail work, which makes it my designated day to record my parts for each week's edition of This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio and to try to get around to doing whatever else needs doing. I always run out out of Wednesday before I run out of Wednesday things to do.

We needed to get Brenda's car to the dealer for a very minor tweak. Brenda's not keen on driving my car, so it made more sense for me to drive her to work in her car, then head up to the dealer in Central Square. I dropped Brenda off at work at 7:30, pulled into the service bay at 8:00 for a fifteen-minute fix at no charge--GO, Burdick Ford! I was home by 8:30.
Not all that hungry, so I settled for a peanut butter snack bar and a second mug of coffee. I tended to my weekly online banking and bill-paying--I'd already decided I wouldn't attempt to mow the lawn (rain in the morning, too warm later on)--and then addressed the radio show.
Good LORD, that was a torturous project this week.
For the first time in several weeks, I postponed doing the individual track credits and annotations that will appear in the posted playlist. I'll probably do that all on Friday instead. Surely this week's Wednesday cover girl Friday Foster would approve. It took a little bit of finessing to fit the tracks that Dana and I selected into our three-hour slot, and I had to swap out a few of my selections. But, right from the start, I had enormous difficulties with iTunes resisting me every freakin' step of the way. Ya wanna program what song? SORreee! Not aVAYlable...! My digital music library was revolting [har!], insisting that tracks weren't there, rudely resisting my efforts to insist I just HEARD the damned thing right here a second ago! That approach was every bit as successful as any other futile attempt to argue with tech.
Finally, although I still couldn't get my music library to play nice, I figured out an approximate idea of what selections would work within our three-hour playground. I went ahead and recorded all of the greetings, back-announcements, and the end-of-show sayonara, and at least that whole process went quickly and without much incident. I then transferred the tracks (mostly one-by-one, accompanied by much begging and cajoling) into a folder, and at long last Dropboxed the troublesome (but rockin') mess to Dana. As far as I could see, after scratching and clawing to scrape together the songs I needed, there were only two files I could not get my Apple library to surrender. Dana has one of those, and I subbed out the other.
I have a feeling this tsuris is an omen for what near-future Wednesday recording sessions may be like. If so, I have some words to say that the FCC would prefer I do not say.
By then, it was already mid-afternoon. I abandoned all hope of getting any more work done. I had a bowl of cereal, then whisked to Comix Zone for my fresh stash of funnybooks (Action Comics and the first issue of Marvel's new Disney mini-series Uncle Scrooge: Earth's Mightiest Duck). I picked Brenda up at 4:00, we returned home, and decided to get takeaway from Yummy China in Cicero. Delicious! After dinner, we had joint clerical errands to complete. We ended the evening with mango popsicles and a couple of TV shows.
A productive day? I guess so. I would have preferred not having so much trouble with my computer, but understanding what responsibilities I had for the day kept unrealistic ambitions at bay. I'll take it. Another Wednesday will bring another opportunity.
