This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1300

Just about anything that ever gets done involves some combination of hubris and humility. We need the bold belief that an endeavor is worthwhile. We need the perspective to remember we are mortals, mortals who may be putting forth our best effort and execution, but still mortals in a world of other mortals putting forth their best effort and execution. We can touch the divine. We are rooted in the everyday.

I concede that the act of slappin' together a weekly radio show just might fall an eensy bit short of humanity's highest-falutin' aspirations. But man, it's still doing something, and it is for damned sure something. And I insist that being able to keep on doing that specific something for 1300 shows and counting is an achievement.

It's not a unique achievement; to name just two other bright lights on the airwaves, Michael McCartney on The Time Machine and Mike Murray on Whole Lotta Shakin' have been at this engaging weekly rock 'n' roll radio thing longer than we have, and they're not alone in that accomplishment. There is a multitude of more great radio shows out there, both younger and older than TIRnRRour fellow local stalwarts at The Wax Museum With Ronnie Dark celebrated their 850th episode the same night we did our 1300th. Each of these many shows likewise represents a triumph in its own right. Rock 'n' roll radio isn't dead, nor is it even wounded. It's evolved, it's vital, and it deserves support, acclaim, and a congratulatory chant of Hey-ho, Let's GO!

Today, our hubris demands a spotlight as we celebrate This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio # 1300. Our humility--and yeah, we do have a little bit of that--rejoices in the life-affirming fact that we're not alone in whatever the hell it is we do.

Go ahead: Spin the dial, my friends. You'll find something dazzling, something fascinating born of hubris and humility, from dozens of visionary mortals reaching for the stars, and playing them on the radio somewhere. The hubris humbly suggests you play it loud. And now, if we've told you once, we've told you 1,300 times:
