It's been a little while since we attempted a giveaway during the show. We did 'em every now and again pre-pandemic, when we were still doing live shows. It's a tiny bit more of a challenge now that the shows are prerecorded, but it didn't seem an insurmountable hurdle, so why the hell not?
Armed with two extra copies of the Half/Cubes' terrific new album Found Pearls, we offered listeners a chance to name 'em and claim 'em, with two questions related to the original versions of a couple of songs the Half/Cubes have covered on record: Who did the original version of "Go Back," and who did the original version of "The Girl?" With emailed answers of Crabby Appleton and the Rubinoos respectively, Beth Woodell and Michael Mitsch were our winners, and their duly-earned copies of Found Pearls will be winging their way with full dispatch.
The giveaway was a good excuse for us to play a ton of Half/Cubes tracks. It was also fun! I don't think we'll be doing many (nor probably any) more giveaways in the near future, but we enjoyed this opportunity to revel in Half/Cube Heaven in the here and now. This is what rock 'n' roll radio sounded like on another Sunday night in Syracuse this week.
This Is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana & Carl airs Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, on the air in Syracuse at SPARK! WSPJ 103.3 and 93.7 FM, streaming at SPARK stream, and on the Radio Garden app as WESTCOTT RADIO.
