This year, I have enjoyed an extraordinarily satisfying run of live theater-going experiences. It's time to update my list of the plays I've seen.
And I tell you, some of these recent performances have been nothing short of brilliant: A concert presentation of Company at the Everson Museum's Covey Theater, the touring company of Hadestown at The Landmark Theatre, Once at Syracuse Stage, culminating in the spectacle of Six at the Landmark--all simply awe-inspiring. A production of Godspell at the Redhouse was likewise a fulfilling, fascinating day at the theater. I thank the good fortune that allowed me these opportunities to witness such wonderful displays of live theater.
This list does not differentiate between musicals and dramatic plays, nor does it care if the setting was Broadway, off-Broadway, the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London, Syracuse Stage, community theater, college campuses, high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, or Shakespeare in the park. As always: the play's the thing.
