Once a month, Boppin' (Like The Hip Folks Do) takes an all-too-brief break from its recently-renewed (but still certifiably dumbass) commitment to free daily public posting, and instead preps a private post shared only with its cherished paid patrons. November's private post expresses in loving detail the sheer wonder of one of my all-time favorite LPs: The Right To Be Italian, the debut and only album by Holly and the Italians.
The Holly and the Italian piece is a return to two former Boppin' series, neither of which has received a new entry in a very long time, Love At First Spin and Second-Hand Sound. Love At First Spin was a series originally suggested to me by Steve Stoeckel of the Spongetones, celebrating complete albums I loved from start to finish on first exposure. I introduced that series here, and then posted entries about the Barracudas' Drop Out With The Barracudas, the Byrds' Mr. Tambourine Man, and the Ramones' Rocket To Russia, all in 2017. I am clearly a slacker, but I'm at least borderline charming.
My used-album spotlight Second-Hand Sound began with one entry in 2017 (about the Monkees' Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.), and returned for one more in 2019 (a double shot of the Monkees with Headquarters and The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees). Now, we resurrect both series with a Love At First Spin/Second-Hand Sound look at Holly and her Italians.
I like this piece a lot, and I'll share it publicly...eventually. For now, the only way to see it is by joining the ranks of my paid patrons, and that'll set you back $3 to $5 a month. But it's okay! I am almost worth it! FUND ME, BABY!
Regular daily public posting resumes tomorrow. The private Holly and the Italians essay will be shared with patrons on Sunday.
