BLOGKEEPING: 1-2-3-4!

I've mostly recovered from my end-of-June trip to New York (as detailed in two parts, here and here). Which means it's a good time for a quick look at where I think I am and what this place looks like today.

I was in New York for a June 29th in-store appearance at Generation Records in Greenwich Village, hyping my book Gabba Gabba Hey! A Conversation With The Ramones. The event was marred by the fact that the store never received copies of the book, and could only take orders. Well! All of those orders have now been filled, and sixteen individually-autographed copies of Gabba Gabba Hey! are currently en route to their new homes in New Jersey. A million thanks once again to everyone for their patience and support, and thanks again to the folks at Generation and to Alexandra Watts at Rare Bird Books for getting things fixed.

Since returning from NYC, it was my pleasure to visit with Rick Deyulio at Syracuse's Classic Rock TK99 for a chat about my book and about the Ramones. Whatta blast! I'm so grateful to all of the nice people who've offered me the use of their forums, from Bridge Street on Newschannel 9 to The 443 Social Club And Lounge to Parthenon Books to Remember The Lightning to Barnes & Noble. I've been lucky to draw such support, and I thank everyone again 'n' again 'n' again.

I don't want today's post to only be about my Ramones book, so let's hit a couple of things and move on. I was delighted to discover the book on the shelf at Sound Garden in Syracuse this week; I've autographed that copy and begun a discussion with the store's manager about doing an in-store. Here's hopin'. For you e-book fans, the book is currently....wait, is this right?

An Amazon Kindle Deal of the Month for $1.99!!

I'm on sale! Gabba Gabba HEY!

Pop Masters, the fabulous new album from Syracuse's own power pop powerhouse the Flashcubes, is due out in less than a month from the mighty Big Stir Records label. It sounds amazing, the CD packaging is terrific, and it sports liner notes by Pat Pierson and a little celebratory rant I cooked up. I'll post my contribution to the Pop Masters liners here soon, probably within the coming week.

Overall, I get the impression that Gabba Gabba Hey! is doing okay at the ol' box office. If one book can lead to another, I remain cluelessly optimistic that Gabba Gabba Hey! will pave a path to publication for my long-threatened other book The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1). That book was completed quite some time ago, but I still want to go back and apply some edits to the manuscript. I've largely refrained from further tweaks to the Table of Contents, but I'm probably going to sub a chapter about the Byrds' "Eight Miles High" in place of another chapter that doesn't feel strong enough. Otherwise, I await further word on GREM!'s potential future.

I have not written any completed fiction in a while. The last short story I finished was "Rain-Hat Sam," which AHOY Comics purchased and paid for in October but which has not yet seen print. I will bang the drum on its behalf when it gets set to ship to the shops. My (unrelated) plan to eventually self-publish a book collecting my short stories has been backburnered, but it ain't dead yet.

And I think that's my where/what for today. This blog's daily schedule will continue, with a 5 Above spotlight on my five favorite Ramones tribute tracks likely to appear pretty soon. SPOILER ALERTMotörhead has my # 2 pick, and Amy Rigby will be at # 1.

Better get writing. These things don't just bop out by themselves, ya know.

If it's true that one book leads to another, my next book will be The Greatest Record Ever Made! (Volume 1). Stay tuned. Your turn is coming.
